Patterns, everywhere. 

Every choice is another occurrence

in the pattern of one day;

one week;

one year; 

one hour. 

Patterns make you rhyme, 

and patterns make you reason. 

Patterns, everywhere, arise, 

from one occurrence into the next. 

Patterns follow you, 

like sunlight follows the sun. 

Patterns avoid you, 

like the shadow avoids the sun. 

Patterns push you, 

like—usually—the smell of sewage. 

Patterns pull you, 

like—usually—the scent of sex. 

Patterns define you, 

algorithmically—

a series of cause and effect; 

a series of stimulus and response. 

Patterns are you, 

wholeheartedly—

a conditioned intelligence;

a consolidated sentience, 

produced as a sum of experience, 

which itself is not aware 

of the billions of neurons, 

connected in trillions of patterns, 

making trillions of calculations 

every nanosecond, 

but diluted into ignorant consciousnesses, 

limited in scope and perspective. 

Patterns are why every reason has a rhyme, 

and why every rhyme has a reason. 

Patterns trend one way, 

and tend to stay that way. 

Patterns trend a trillion ways

to finally point one way,

but diluted into ignorant consciousness,

limited in scope and perspective, 

after making trillions of calculations 

connected in trillions of patterns 

by billions of neurons 

to produce a sum of experience, 

a consolidated sentience; 

a conditioned intelligence, 

every nanosecond. 

Patterns, like sunlight, are predictable

because the sun follows patterns. 

Patterns, like the shadow, are predictable

because the sun follows patterns. 

Sunny days evoke memories of sunny days. 

Sunny occurrences feel sunny, 

like all the other sunnies. 

Shadowy nights evoke memories of shadowy nights. 

Shadowy occurrences feel shadowy, 

like all the other shadows. 

Everything now is either sunny, or shadowy. 

Nothing yet was neither sunny, nor shadowy.

Listen: that pleasant voice is sunny; 

and that unpleasant voice is shadowy. 

Listen: that scream, in nightmares, is shadowy; 

and that scream, in daydreams, is sunny. 

Listen: that leaf, rustling, is sunny;

and that leaf, crunching, is shadowy

In as few as two occurrences—

or two nanoseconds—

twice can make a pattern; 

and the shadowy is dubbed shadowy

so that, next time, it is, again, shadowy;

and the sunny is dubbed sunny

so that, next time, it is, again, sunny. 

Thus, sunny days evoke memories of sunny days. 

Sunny occurrences feel sunny, 

like all the other sunnies. 

Shadowy nights evoke memories of shadowy nights. 

Shadowy occurrences feel shadowy, 

like all the other shadows. 

Patterns are you,
